Warner Bros. has been hiring celebrities to dub characters in games distributed in Brazil. The first was Roger, from the band Ultraje a Rigor, for the protagonist of Battlefield: Hardline. Soon afterward, Pitty joined the list and voiced Cassie Cage in Mortal Kombat X.
Whether because of the backlash or the attention it generated, both cases caused controversy because the celebrities were not professional voice actors and had not received enough preparation for the work. As Pitty said in interviews, she spent only one afternoon in the dubbing studio, recording all of her character's lines. Below is one of her interviews with UOL after the controversy:
There is no denying that most consumers were unhappy with the result, although some people liked it. An online petition was even created against Warner, asking for an “update” to Pitty's dubbing. The petition includes the following description: “It is important to the game's audience that professional, high-quality material be delivered. -- It is important to the company and its image that it deliver the best material possible. Its games are already big enough and do not need celebrities who are not voice actors, or actors, in their material as a draw.”
The description ends with direct attacks on Pitty's work: “Keeping this dubbing will always feel like a tiny cavity in a smile that could be completely white. In the future, when we remember how magnificent this game was, we will also remember that it had a ‘but,’ and I believe that neither fans nor companies want that.”
