7th Dragon is a SEGA RPG series that originally began on Nintendo DS in 2009. The game stood out because of the involvement of major SEGA creators such as Rieko Kodama (from Phantasy Star and Skies of Arcadia) and composer Yuzo Koshiro (Streets of RageThe Revenge of Shinobi, and Shenmue). However, the game was released only in Japan, but it received a fan translation.

After that, 7th Dragon 2020 was released for PSP in 2011. Although it is a sequel, it is unrelated to the first game's story and is considered by fans to be far superior to the original Nintendo DS game. It also received a fan translation, but its direct sequel, 7th Dragon 2020-II, released in 2013, was the only game in the series still available exclusively in Japanese. Now, however, the entire series is available in English (definitely more accessible than Japanese), as the fan translation for 7th Dragon 2020-II is finally ready. Because it is a sequel to 7th Dragon 2020, it is highly recommended that you play the previous game first.

The only game in the series officially released in English was 7th Dragon III Code: VFD, released in the West for Nintendo 3DS in 2016. Despite the name, it is the fourth game in the series, not the third, and its story is also independent of the other games in the series.

It is great to see these games being translated by fans, since their chances of receiving official localizations today are basically nonexistent, as the Nintendo DS and PSP have already been discontinued.
