We recently reported that Apex Legends had reached the incredible milestone of one million users in eight hours. These numbers continued to rise dramatically, and now 25 million people have tried Respawn's free battle royale. If that were not impressive enough, director Vince Zampella said the title surpassed two million concurrent players during the previous weekend.

Everyone is comparing Apex Legends with Fortnite, a hugely successful title in this genre. But shaking this competitor will not be easy: Fortnite has had a loyal player base since launch, with 200 million users and 8.3 million concurrent players.

In Zampella's words: "What a week! Since we launched Apex Legends last week, we have seen the creation of an exciting, thriving community full of great comments and ideas (...) Our goal is to build this game with you, our community, so keep giving us your feedback because we really are listening."

Zampella's announcements included:

  • New events such as the Apex Legends Challenge, in which the 48 biggest Twitch streamers will compete against one another on February 19, 2019;
  • A special Valentine's Day event in which players will receive themed items;
  • New characters, weapons, and more from March onward;
  • Work on something new in the Titanfall universe and production of a Star Wars game called Jedi: Fallen Order.

Apex Legends is available for PC through Origin, as well as on PSN and Live, and is completely free.
