Recently, on December 26, 2018, the fan-made character Bowsette won the Twitter Trends Grand Prize. The awards ceremony took place in Japan and was based on the website's ranking of popular keywords.
For those who do not know, the character emerged in September 2018 from a comic strip created by cartoonist ayyk92. In an almost inexplicable way, the popularity of the female version of Bowser, the villain from Super Mario, grew virally on social media, receiving countless pieces of fan art and game mods.
It all began when Nintendo released the trailer for New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe for the Nintendo Switch console. In this game, unlike its original Wii U version, we can control the character Toadette, who has, among the items available in the game, a crown capable of transforming her into Peachette, a character who would be a fusion of Peach and Toadette.
With such great popularity, the fan-made character even inspired a mobilization among Nintendo fans, who requested that she be officially included in the mustachioed hero's classic franchise. For now, the Big N has not commented on whether this could happen one day. Many people, however, could not wait and decided to include Bowsette in popular games such as Mario Kart 8 and even Sonic Generation.
