Another video game is about to receive an animated series on Netflix. Now it is the Carmen Sandiego franchise's turn. Its premiere is scheduled for January 18, 2019, and its first season will have 20 episodes of 22 minutes each. Netflix confirmed this announcement through Twitter.
For those unfamiliar with it, Carmen Sandiego is a franchise that originated on Apple II computers in 1985 with the game Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego? (Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego?), later receiving versions for countless computers and consoles.
The desire of producers Gene Portwood and Lauren Elliott, former Disney employees, was to help children and young people learn geography in a fun way, since the objective of the games is to find Carmen and her accomplices in several countries by receiving clues about those locations.
The franchise is large and also has other titles, such as Where in Time Is Carmen Sandiego? (Where in time is Carmen Sandiego?), which focuses on history instead of geography.
We Brazilians have a special affection for Carmen Sandiego, since Tectoy released the Master System and Mega Drive versions of the games here, translated into Brazilian Portuguese and in special editions containing a detective guide and even an encyclopedia from Editora Abril to make players' lives easier.
It is worth noting that Carmen Sandiego previously received an animated series in 1995, produced by Fox.
