SEGA recently shared details about SEGA AGES Columns II: The Voyage Through Time, which will soon arrive on Switch through the eShop in Japan (and, like other titles, most likely in the West soon afterward).
Below, you can find details on all the game's new features as described on its official website:
■ Game Modes:
Arcade Mode:
Enjoy two types of games with "Flash Columns," a game in which you match jewels to clear them, and "VS Columns," in which you aim for "combos" to put pressure on your opponent's field. When the skull that appears after a certain amount of time is cleared, the floor will rise and the field will become smaller.
The following additional elements have been added to Arcade Mode:
- A stage-selection feature has been added to Flash Columns, allowing you to start at any of the 70 stages;
- A "Skull Cut" option has been added, preventing skulls from appearing;
- The second player's field can be rotated 180 degrees to play VS Mode face-to-face when the Switch is placed on the floor or a table;
- A "Stage Design" option has been added, allowing you to set the field and jewel designs to your liking: "Random" or "Columns I."
Infinite Columns:
A new mode created for the Switch version of Columns II. The basic rules are the same as those of Flash Columns in Arcade Mode, but this is an endless game. After you have played for a certain amount of time, jewels will be added to the bottom row so that the floor gradually rises. In addition, clearing any flashing jewel will clear all jewels of the same color.
Columns I:
In this mode, you can enjoy an endless mode based on the original Columns for Mega Drive. When you start the game, you can choose from three background tracks.
*These are the same tracks included in the paid “Game Pack” add-on for the Yakuza 0 Companion App on PS Vita.
Network VS:
Compete against online players across the country in Arcade Mode's VS Columns.
■ Bonus Features
Jewel Box:
Check the status of the stages you have completed in Arcade Mode's Flash Columns. Depending on how much you have completed, you will be able to view brief profiles of Round Girl and Round Boy, the characters who appear in the opening scenes of SEGA AGES titles.
