To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the game Doom, its creator, John Romero, announced on his website that he is developing a free expansion scheduled for release in February 2019. Codenamed Sigil, the expansion will add nine levels to the campaign mode and nine more levels to the "deathmatch" mode.

Apparently, owning an original copy of Doom will be necessary to access the new expansion.

According to John Romero, he also plans to release two limited-edition special editions. To do so, he is working with Limited Run Games. Extras in both boxes include music by heavy metal band Buckethead, an exclusive track for the Sigil expansion, and artwork by artist Christopher Lovell.

The basic box will contain a 16GB USB drive designed to look like a 3.5-inch floppy disk, a case with two data discs, a Buckethead soundtrack, and Romero game stickers. It will cost US$40 (approximately R$155).

The larger edition will include a numbered box illustration signed by Romero and Lovell, a book with behind-the-scenes details about the expansion, a print featuring Lovell’s art, a Sigil coin, a tin statue with Romero’s head impaled, and a T-shirt. It will cost US$160 (approximately R$590).

Pre-orders for both special editions will be available starting December 24, 2018.
