Getaway Shootout is a new game developed by New Eich Games, the same company behind Ping Pong Chaos, Rooftop Snipers, and Tube Jumpers, all available for web browsers.
Unlike traditional platform games where the character "runs and jumps," here you literally only jump. Basically, you hold down a button—"W" or "E" in the browser version—and the character tilts their body like a seesaw. When you release it, they jump in the direction of the tilt. The goal is to reach the end of the level before your opponents.
Along the way, you find power-ups and weapons that help you move through the map and shoot enemies. In addition, there are more than twenty collectible characters over the course of the game, which significantly increases its longevity, as well as a two-player mode.
Speaking of longevity, the levels are relatively small but plentiful, which makes the action more dynamic and the adventure more interesting. If it were the other way around, with fewer and larger levels, it could probably hurt the experience created by New Eich Games.
The power-ups significantly change the course of a match. Most are offensive, generally represented by guns or bombs that players fire to hinder their opponents, and they can be "crucial" to winning the match. There is also a protective shield, but it is not very effective against the weapons.
Even though it is an addictive game, it is a matter of taste: the first issue is that the gameplay is difficult to get used to, requiring a few trial-and-error matches before the player "gets the hang of it." The second is that the large number of extra characters ends up being purely cosmetic and changes absolutely nothing about the gameplay. It would be more interesting if each had their own particular traits.
