Intellivision Entertainment recently announced that it is producing a new console for the gaming market: the Intellivision Amico, a video game system focused on casual and family audiences.
According to the information released, the Intellivision Amico will cost between US$150.00 and US$180.00, around R$600.00, will feature exclusive games, and will reach the market on October 10, 2020. The console's entire library will apparently carry an all-ages rating and can be played without content restrictions. Games will cost between 3.00 and 8.00 dollars, around R$30.00, with no DLC or other microtransactions. On launch day, more than 20 games will be available for download from the Intellivision Online Store, in addition to those already preinstalled.
The releases will include new games and remakes of classic titles from the 1980s and 1990s, such as Pong, Astrosmash, Centipede, and ToeJam & Earl. One new feature is the ability to play these classic games online for the first time.
Image processing will focus on 2D graphics, HDMI outputs, and expansion ports for future accessories. The console's controllers will use Bluetooth and feature a gyroscope, accelerometer, "force feedback," speakers, and a microphone.
According to Intellivision president Tommy Tallarico: "We are creating a console that parents want to buy, not one they have to buy (...) Most games made for home consoles today are created only with the hardcore gamer in mind. We see a world where everyone is interested in playing at home and with friends."

For those unfamiliar with its history, Intellivision was already part of the console market during the second generation of video games, but it did not achieve much success at the time because of the overwhelming dominance of Atari and competing PCs. Will it have better luck now? We will have to wait and see.
