The game, initially exclusive to the Brazilian market thanks to a partnership between TecToy and 3D Realms (the game's developer), is expected to reach the entire world in November, more than 17 years after its release in Brazil. This will happen because Piko Interactive acquired the rights to the game's port after entering into a partnership with 3D Realms.
Although it is a "real treat" for collectors, the price is set at 40 dollars (around R$160.00) for the cartridge alone. If you want a high-quality Mega Drive case and a full-color instruction manual, you will have to pay 55 dollars (around R$220.00). They ship anywhere in the world, including Brazil.
Duke Nukem 3D was released for Mega Drive in 1998 because there was still a large audience for the console in the Brazilian market, even at a time when the world was already dominated by PlayStation, Sega Saturn, and Nintendo 64. It is a conversion of the same game released for PC, but consists only of the "Lunar Apocalypse" chapter and has simplified settings and graphics to adapt it to the Mega Drive hardware.
Piko Interactive? Who Are They?
It is a developer that seeks to create new games for 8-bit and 16-bit consoles, but it also works as a distributor and has already rereleased some older games. Last year, it put Super 3D Noah´s Ark back into circulation, a pirated biblical game released for the Super Nintendo in 1994 that is a hack of Wolfenstein 3D.
