With films such as Sonic and Mario in production, another video game mascot from the '90s is getting a new movie for the big screen. Capcom announced today that a live-action film starring the Blue Bomber is in production.

The film will be called "Mega Man," and will be written and directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman (Paranormal Activity 3 and 4), with 20th Century Fox responsible for distributing the feature. Chernin Entertainment, known for the Planet of the Apes reboot, will be responsible for producing the film. Masi Oka will be the film's producer.

Here is an excerpt from Capcom's announcement about the film: “The aim [of the film] is to appeal to a broad audience, including not only players but action movie fans as well, with an adaptation that retains the world of the Mega Man games while incorporating the grand production and entertainment for which Hollywood movies are known.”

The release date for Mega Man is currently still unknown.
