In a new livestream held on Sonic's official YouTube channel, fans were shown more details and new features from Sonic Mania Plus, the expansion to the acclaimed Sonic Mania.
Here are all the new features revealed:
- Mighty is not hurt by spikes if he is in ball form, and he can also deflect enemy shots.
- In Encore Mode, the player can keep switching between teams of two, and by using monitors, you can switch characters during gameplay.
- The Special Stages will have a different layout in Encore Mode, making them more difficult.
- Mighty and Ray had models created for the Special Stages.
- If a character dies, they are replaced by one the player has not lost yet.
- Encore Mode will have three new item boxes: one that switches the character you are controlling for another, another that unlocks an "extra" character you can use later, and a third that switches the characters randomly.
- Mighty and Ray will be characters exclusive to Encore Mode.
- In Competition Mode, the teleport monitor causes all players to be switched at random, and if only one player is left to cross the finish line, nothing will happen.
Sonic Mania Plus will be available as digital content and on physical media for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Steam, and Nintendo Switch on July 17.
