Minecraft: Story Mode will stop being downloadable on several platforms because of the closure of Telltale Games. This has happened with other games from the company that are being removed from digital stores. One example is Tales from the Borderlands, which has not been available for purchase on Steam since May.

According to Mojang, the company responsible for the Minecraft brand, the game will no longer receive support after the 25th of this month, including its "seasons" 1 and 2. The company strongly recommends that owners download the games before that date so nothing is lost.

On the official Minecraft website, there is a complete statement:

(...)If you own any season of Minecraft: Story Mode for Microsoft Windows, macOS, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Wii U, Nintendo Switch, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Android, or iOS, you have until June 25, 2019, to download the episodes. We recommend checking that you have all episodes downloaded!

Minecraft: Story Mode is a game released on October 13, 2015, and is an interactive narrative in the style of many games published by Telltale Games. The story follows Jesse, who sets out on a journey with friends to prevent the destruction of their world. The game even made it to Netflix through an agreement between Telltale and the company, giving the streaming service a season with five episodes.

This situation fueled debates about the advantages and disadvantages of owning a physical or digital game, since even people who bought the game digitally risk losing it. The issue was caused by several internal problems at Telltale Games, ranging from the departure of its CEO to numerous layoffs. One "survivor" of this crisis was the company's The Walking Dead games, which will receive sequels thanks to external support.
