According to the trailer, some Pokémon will be able to reach a Gigantamax form. In other words, their appearance will change when they enter Dynamax mode, with more radical changes than Pokémon would normally undergo.

Some Pokémon with this ability include Corviknight, Drednaw, and the brand-new Alcreme, revealed in this trailer:

In terms of gameplay, these forms seem to work similarly to Mega Evolutions, introduced in Pokémon X & Y, which also change the appearance of the limited Pokémon that possess them.

The trailer also highlights new Gym Leaders, whose appearances will depend on the chosen game:

  • Beatrice, a Fighting-type specialist, exclusive to Pokémon Sword

    Bea

  • Allister, a Ghost-type specialist, exclusive to Pokémon Shield

This is not the first time Pokémon games have had Gym Leaders exclusive to different versions: Pokémon Black & White used the same tactic in 2011 with the Leaders Iris and Drayden. However, both specialized in Dragon types.

Pokémon Sword & Shield will launch on November 15, 2019.
