Scheduled to launch in Japan today, July 20, Pokémon GO will be delayed because confidential information was leaked.

In this case, it was an email from the game’s sponsor on the other side of the world, McDonald’s, which reached the Asian press and generated even more anticipation among the Japanese public. As a result, developer Niantic concluded that the servers would be overloaded by high public demand and decided to delay the launch.

The announcement (reported in the West by TechCrunch) said that Japan would be the first country to receive sponsored gyms, where players could battle, add new features beyond the traditional DLC, and more. Curiously, the “gyms” would be any of the 3,000 McDonald’s locations spread across the country.

The information now is that Pokémon GO will launch tomorrow, July 21, according to the Japanese website Nikkei. However, there has been no official confirmation from either Nintendo or Niantic.

Released on July 6, the game received mixed reviews from the media, but it was one of the most downloaded applications in the United States during its first days on the market.

Among the specialists’ criticisms are the large number of freezes and the gameplay considered “shallow,” something that could have been explored much better. In addition, it has also been causing controversy with the police in the United States because the app can distract people while they play.

Regardless of the criticism, Pokémon GO has already been downloaded more than 30 million times around the world in less than a month.
