A new Pokémon app will be released by The Pokémon Company. This time, instead of games such as Pokémon Shuffle and Pokémon Duel, the company will introduce the "Pokémon Pass" tool.

The app, already available for iOS and Android, will give digital rewards to users who visit certain stores and scan QR codes during events. Anyone who downloads the app will also receive a Detective Pikachu sticker.

The app's first distribution will be Shiny versions of the starters from Pokémon Let's Go! Eevee and Pokémon Let's Go! Pikachu, to be redeemed in those same games between May 11 and June 23. Unfortunately for players in Brazil, it will only take place at Target, a US retail store.

It appears that Pokémon Pass will replace the "Mystery Gift" feature, which has been present in the franchise since its second generation, beginning with Pokémon Gold & Silver.

The app also eliminates the restriction of having to take a console to stores during events, since everything can now be done with a smartphone. This is especially useful in this generation, as Pokémon games will no longer be released for the Nintendo 3DS, but for the Nintendo Switch, which is a little less convenient to carry outside the home.

The app was probably released in anticipation of Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield, which will be released at the end of the year.
