A few days after an age-rating filing was made in Korea, SEGA confirmed Puyo Puyo eSports for PlayStation 4 and Switch.

Puyo Puyo eSports will have the official Japan eSports license, with a focus on competitive play. In addition to the standard rules of Puyo Puyo 2, it also includes selected rules from Puyo Puyo Fever. The game will feature online battles and offline championship modes for eight players, as well as 24 playable characters from Puyo Puyo!! Quest (the Japan-exclusive smartphone game in the series), Puyo Puyo Chronicle (the Japan-exclusive 3DS game) and other games in the series.

The game will be playable at Tokyo Game Show 2018, which takes place from September 20 to 23. It will be released in Japan on October 25, the franchise's 27th anniversary. Since the game is more streamlined and reuses material from other games, it will be released for only 1,999 yen (about 18 dollars), which is much less than the price of a regular game. It is not yet known whether the game will be released in the West, but we hope so, since Puyo Puyo Tetris sold more than one million copies on Switch alone.
