SEGA announced that it acquired French development studio Amplitude Studios for an undisclosed amount on July 1. The studio is responsible for the Endless franchise, which spans several genres but is known for its turn-based strategy. The studio is working on Endless Space 2, which is expected to arrive on Steam later this year and will be published by SEGA.

Amplitude Studios wrote the following about joining SEGA on its blog:

“You might ask yourself: "Why SEGA?" If you asked only Mathieu and me, we could easily answer with the words ‘Creative Assembly and Relic!’ because we are HUGE fans of their games. The opportunity to join them is incredible for us; a dream come true. But the biggest reason we wanted to join SEGA is the way it treats its internal studios. Studios are often controlled by a central department that dictates the games they must make, how, and when. But SEGA is a company that supports its creators, positioning itself as a service provider and helping studios achieve their goals with only one objective in mind: quality!”

Jurgen Post, SEGA Europe’s chief operating officer and president, said the following about Amplitude Studios:

“Having the opportunity to add a studio with a growing reputation like Amplitude to the SEGA family is exciting and strengthens SEGA Europe’s position as a market leader in publishing high-quality PC games.”

It is an interesting move by SEGA Europe, since the company has become one of the leaders in PC strategy games, with series that include popular titles such as Total War, Company of Heroes, and Football Manager.
