It was recently confirmed that the next fighter for Super Smash Bros. Ultimatewill be revealed on the 11th, during the Nintendo Direct for E3 2019. The fighter in question will be the second in the Fighters Pass, a "package" with five downloadable characters whose first revealed character was Joker from Persona 5.
Joker arrived in the game on April 17
The news was expected, since several months had passed since Joker was revealed (December) and released (April). The confirmation came from Masahiro Sakurai himself, the game's director, in a video message shown after the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate World Championship 2019.
In the video, Sakurai congratulates the winning team (Japan) and then mentions the new fighter:

The championship was part of a series of events held by Nintendo on the 8th. It began with the Super Mario Maker 2 Invitational 2019, where four players competed to promote the game; continued with the Splatoon 2 World Championship 2019, a tournament bringing together the winning teams from four other tournaments around the world; and finally reached the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate World Championship 2019, which follows the same principle as the Splatoon 2 championship.

The E3 2019 Nintendo Direct will take place on Tuesday, June 11, at 1 p.m. Brasília time. After it, there will be the Nintendo Treehouse livestream, with gameplay from several games and possibly also Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
