Fans may remember when a CGI/live-action Sonic movie was confirmed in 2014. After the film rights were transferred to Paramount Pictures in 2017, the movie began moving into production. We now have confirmation of the city where filming will take place, along with several details about its plot.

Filming will take place in the small Canadian city of Ladysmith. According to Abraham Fraser, who is responsible for selecting filming locations for the movie, this city was the ideal choice. “We looked all over Vancouver Island and chose Ladysmith as the main town for our film,” he said.

Filming in this city will begin in mid-September and last from eight to eleven days. Filming for the movie itself will begin on July 30.

Relevant plot details were also provided to the city's local newspaper. The film "is about a small town that comes together to help the sheriff save Sonic—an anthropomorphic blue hedgehog who can reach the speed of sound—from the government, which is pursuing him," for reasons that remain unknown. The characters confirmed for the movie so far are Sonic, villain Dr. Eggman, and Tom (James Marsden), a police officer who will help Sonic.

Actors Already Cast

At the end of last month, it was revealed that actor James Marsden would take on the role of Tom. James appeared in works such as the famous series Westworld, playing Teddy Flood. Another well-known role was Prince Edward in Disney's Enchanted. He is also known for playing Cyclops in the X-Men films.

Another actress confirmed for the film was Tika Sumpter, probably playing another police officer in the story. She is known for portraying Michelle Obama in a romantic drama about the first date between former President Barack Obama and the former First Lady.

Sonic the Hedgehog will premiere in theaters on November 15, 2019, directed by Jeff Fowler, produced by Tim Miller, director of Deadpool, and written by Patrick Casey and Josh Miller, writers of the Fox animated series Golan the Insatiable.
