Some Super Mario fans noticed a certain pattern in Nintendo posts and believe the company is dropping hints about an announcement related to Super Mario Sunshine, the GameCube game released in 2002.

In a post on Nintendo's Twitter account wishing its followers a good summer vacation (because it is summer in the Northern Hemisphere), the use of the word "Sunshine" seemed suspicious to many. Not only that, but the vacation theme of the tweet also strongly evokes the title.

The reference may be intentional and merely a tribute, but that did not stop fans from theorizing and drawing on other supposed clues.

Fans then noticed certain details in Nintendo's Gamescon videos, where some objects are oddly present in the set. These objects are fruits that appeared in Super Mario Sunshine as important elements in some missions and helped create the title's tropical atmosphere.

One of the fruits is a watermelon. It appears in the "The Watermelon Festival" mission in Super Mario Sunshine, which is known for its difficulty.

Another fruit is a pineapple. It is one of the fruits Yoshi can eat in the game, and it also blocks a passage to the Serena Beach area. The fruit also serves as inspiration for the Pinna Park area.

The expectation is based entirely on speculation, since Nintendo has made no official announcement, but the nature of these "hidden messages" raises the possibility of a remake, a sequel, or even themed DLC for Super Mario Odyssey based on the game.
