As recently reported, SEGA filed to register the Monkey Ball franchise under the name Tabegoro! Super Monkey Ball in Japan. The word "Tabegoro" can reportedly describe a fruit or other food that is ripe, matured, in season or ready to be eaten, as in the case of fruit.
For those who are unfamiliar with it, the Monkey Ball franchise consists of platform games in which we control the environment rather than the character directly. It debuted in arcades in 2001 in an unusual cabinet with a banana-shaped joystick. It soon arrived on the GameCube, and since then several sequels and ports have been released for various consoles. The most recent appearances were Super Monkey Ball Bounce for iOS and Android, and Super Monkey Ball: Banana Splitz for PlayStation Vita and Nintendo Wii.
We will probably be having fun with AiAi and his group of monkeys soon.
Unfortunately, SEGA has not yet officially commented on whether it has a new entry in the franchise ready or even in development, but everything indicates that the fun monkeys will soon receive another new title for current platforms. We will keep an eye out for news, especially with E3 coming soon.
