Nintendo's latest platform could receive two new models this year. That is what Wall Street Journal technology journalist Takashi Mochizuki stated on Twitter. When discussing the hybrid console, which was supposedly going to be released in new versions aimed at two different audiences, Takashi also said that the models would be surprisingly different from the Nintendo Switch we know, although he did not provide details.

"Here is my new report on new Nintendo Switches coming this summer. There will be two models, and people who saw them said their designs are 'different from the original, you would be surprised.'"
According to the report, one of the models would have improvements, making it more suitable for "enthusiastic gamers." This could indicate that the new version would be similar to the New Nintendo 3DS compared with the Nintendo 3DS, for example. Even so, its graphical power would still not match the PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox One X, which is to be expected from a console that can also be used as a handheld. It is not known whether this would affect performance in existing games or limit compatibility with future games.
The report also says that the other model would be cheaper and more accessible, targeting a more casual audience, similarly to what the company did with the Nintendo 2DS handheld line and the Wii Mini.
It is important to note that Nintendo had not made an official announcement, so there was no guarantee that these models would actually launch in 2019, or launch at all. However, Takashi's credibility could not be dismissed either.
