The Wonder Boy/Monster World series has been moving at full speed lately. Along with the new game Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom and the remake of Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap (known in Brazil as a game from the Monica series for Master System), a new remake of the first Wonder Boy made by Cyberfront Korea, called Wonder Boy Returns, is scheduled to launch on Steam on October 12, 2016 (UPDATE [03/24/2017]: In addition to the PC version on Steam, the game will also be available digitally for PS4 on March 30, 2017).
Before the series became the whole copyright-rights mess it is today, the first Wonder Boy was a modest arcade-style game whose simple goal was to reach the end of the stages, throwing axes when necessary while collecting fruit to keep your energy from running out, with the straightforward premise that Wonder Boy (also known as Tom-Tom) must save his girlfriend Tina. Now, the experience will come with... uh... "modern visuals" and remade music as well. Watch the trailer below:
Now, if you allow me to offer a criticism (which I believe most of you will agree with), I hope the game is still in an early stage of development. The new look is interesting enough, but the character animation is genuinely very strange and definitely needs more animation frames. Even some mobile games are much more detailed in that respect. What do you think?
