Another team has been confirmed for Team Sonic Racing: Team Eggman, consisting of Dr. Eggman, Metal Sonic, and Zavok from Sonic Lost World.

The Zeti's inclusion sparked a discussion among series fans on social media about the character's supposedly forced use in recent Sonic games, since the Deadly Six were not well received by those fans, with some criticizing the group for failing to make an impact as characters. Discussions involving Zavok had occurred among fans before, with many objecting to the inclusion of Zavok inSonic Forces, where he ultimately received more attention than other villains such as Chaos. This resulted in several memes about the character's participation.

Our Opinion

Since their debut, the Deadly Six have always fit shallow character stereotypes and never went much further, which failed to capture my interest as a fan, just as it failed to interest others. Zavok is not exactly a memorable character, making me even more perplexed by his continued inclusion in series titles. Is he really that popular? His participation in Sonic Forces may even be understandable, since his presence helped reinforce the idea that enemies from the series' past were returning to unite against the hedgehog, but Team Sonic Racing already has to work with a limited roster of only 15 characters from a huge series, meaning every choice must be carefully considered.

Infinite, one of the best additions in Sonic Forces, not only survived the game in which he debuted but is also extremely charismatic and interesting as a character, yet he ends up going unused. This leads many fans to question the Zeti's continued use in the games when there are better characters available. Most fan reactions to his inclusion consist of confusion and questions, as shown on social media.

What we can hope from this new addition is that his participation will at least be significant and useful in the game. Team Sonic Racing will be released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and Steam on May 21, 2019.
