Completely unexpected news was revealed today, which will excite those looking for a greater presence of Nintendo in Brazil. Mario & Sonic At the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games will include Portuguese as a language option, together with voice acting and subtitles, according to The Enemy.
It is worth keeping in mind that dubbing will be provided only for the narrator, commentators, and a few brief moments in the game. Characters from the Mario and Sonic series will still speak English (and even so, dialogue between the characters in this game is minimal, usually reduced to grunts and shouts). However, the game’s story is still told through the speech bubbles through which they communicate, and those will be translated in the Brazilian version.
With the Tokyo Olympics approaching, Mario & Sonic continue their adventures in the biggest game in the series to date. In addition to the main Olympic modes, the game will also have two extra modes. The traditional Dream Mode returns, with characters taking part in adventures set in their own universes; this time, stages from games such as Sonic Forces and Super Mario Odyssey will appear. The other mode is “Tokyo 1964,” which gives the characters a retro look in competitions reminiscent of sports games for the Nintendo Entertainment System and Master System.
The game will be released on November 5 throughout the Americas, with a European release on November 8. It will also receive a version for Android and iOS.
