SEGA's Toshihiro Nagoshi said during the latest SEGA Nama broadcast that development of the new game in the Sakura Wars series (then known by the provisional title Shin Sakura Taisen or New Sakura Wars), announced in April, is going well and that they may be able to show the game soon.
“Development is going somewhat well. We should be able to show something soon. A considerable amount of passion is being put into it. I am also rooting for everyone,” Nagoshi said. He also stated that the game is of “surprisingly good quality.”
A release date for the game has not yet been announced. New Sakura Wars was supposedly planned for release by March 31, 2019, in Japan because it was among the titles for the end of SEGA's next fiscal year. However, after an update, it is no longer listed among the titles due by then. The only titles appearing for the end of the current fiscal year (March 2019) are Yakuza 4 (PS4), Yakuza 5 (PS4), Puyo Puyo eSports (PS4, Switch), Project Judge (PS4) and Total War: Three Kingdoms (PC).
