In recent weeks, rumors emerged that Nintendo planned to release new versions of the Nintendo Switch, including a cheaper and a more advanced model.

However, at a conference concerning the end of the company's fiscal year, president Shuntaro Furukawa specified that the company would not reveal anything about this at E3, one of the industry's biggest events of the year.

As a general rule, we are always working on new hardware and will announce it when we are able to sell it. But we do not plan to show anything at this year's E3 in June.

This statement goes against rumors that the new console models would launch later this year, given that E3 takes place in the middle of the year. However, Furukawa made it clear that the company is working on new hardware, although it was not clear whether he meant new Nintendo Switch versions, peripherals, or a new handheld that would succeed the Nintendo 3DS line.

Nintendo 3DS received several models since its launch

Regarding the fiscal year, Nintendo also announced in an interview with Kotaku that there is no new first-party game for Nintendo 3DS to be announced.

We have nothing to announce regarding first-party software for the Nintendo 3DS family of handhelds. We can confirm that third-party company software is in development.

The last title from Nintendo itself for the handheld was Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn, released at the beginning of the year. As for third parties, Persona Q2 is still scheduled to launch in the West, but the future of games on Nintendo 3DS remains uncertain, especially in contrast to Nintendo Switch, which will receive major titles throughout the year, such as Astral Chain, Super Mario Maker 2, Luigi's Mansion, and Pokémon Sword and Shield.
