After more than 15 years with Nintendo of America, including almost 13 as its president and chief operating officer, Reggie Fils-Aime will retire to devote more time to his family and friends. Reggie's last day at the company will be April 15. Doug Bowser, NOA's current senior vice president of sales and marketing, will succeed Reggie as president of Nintendo of America.
Reggie began his career at Nintendo of America in 2003 as executive vice president of sales and marketing and became its president in May 2006. His career began during the era when the Japanese company's main consoles were the GameCube and Game Boy Advance. Under his leadership, Nintendo reached audiences of many ages with phenomena and titles such as Wii Sports, Wii Fit, and Nintendogs. His presidency led to record sales for products such as the Nintendo DS, Wii, Nintendo 3DS, and Switch. Always projecting charisma, he won the hearts of countless fans with his humorous, warm personality, making him a favorite among both players and members of the video game industry.
I truly appreciate everything Reggie has done for Nintendo. Inside and outside our company, Reggie is known as an exceptional leader.
"I truly appreciate everything Reggie has done for Nintendo. Inside and outside our company, Reggie is known as an exceptional leader. We are grateful that he is leaving the business in good shape. We will miss him, but we wish him the very best in his retirement, and we are also pleased to have such a capable successor ready to take on this role. Doug Bowser and the rest of the team will ensure a smooth transition and continued momentum for Nintendo," says Shuntaro Furukawa, president of Nintendo Co., Ltd.
“Nintendo will be part of my heart forever. It is a part filled with gratitude—for the incredibly talented people I worked with, for the opportunity to represent such an amazing brand, and above all, for feeling like a member of the most positive and welcoming community of players. As I look forward to leaving in good health and good spirits, this is not a 'game over' for me, but instead a 'level up' so I can spend more time with my wife, my family, and my friends”, says Reggie.
“It has been a great joy for me to work with and learn from Reggie for four years at Nintendo of America, and rest assured, we will continue to build on his work to develop and expand our brand, continuing Nintendo's mission to create smiles around the world. Millions more are yet to come”, adds Reggie's successor, Doug Bowser.
"Doug is a passionate and powerful person. In his youth, he probably spent a lot of time in front of a Donkey Kong arcade machine. Doug has a strong relationship with Mr. Furukawa and with all the teams at Nintendo. So I know that together, our teams will continue to surprise and delight", Reggie says in a video announcing his retirement.
Bowser is an industry veteran who has worked with several companies, including Electronic Arts, where he was employed from 2007 to 2015. During his time at NOA, Bowser led the sales and marketing efforts for the Switch, which became the hardware system of this generation that sold fastest in the shortest amount of time in the United States.
