After a shortteaser, Atlus released a trailer for Persona 5: The Royal during the Persona Super Live Concert livestream.
The trailer confirms suspicions that the game will be an improved version of the original Persona 5, as many expected. Atlus often does this with games in the franchise, as seen with Persona 3 FES and Persona 4 Golden.
The character seen in the teaser was shown in greater detail. Her name is Kasumi Yoshizawa, and she will also be part of the Phantom Thieves. The trailer does not show her as a possible protagonist, as many had imagined, but it is still unknown whether her role and Joker's will be interchangeable according to the player's choice.
Other new features shown in the trailer include:
- A new opening
- New box art
- A new area to explore, Kichijoji
- An exclusive All-out Attack animation for Futaba
- A new confidant
- The ability to meet Caroline and Justine outside the Velvet Room
Atlus said the game will be optimized for PS4 Pro, looking even better when played on it. The official website also confirmed that the game will include the characters' third semester at Shuujin Academy.
One detail some people noticed on the site was a "new" character who has the same personality and speech mannerisms as the cat Morgana. It is possible that he is a human version of the mascot, similar to what happened with Teddie in Persona 4.

In the screenshot, the character uses the name "Ikemen"
The game's release date was confirmed for October 31 in Japan. It was also confirmed, however, that the Western release will be in 2020, although no exact date was given.
The Persona Super Live Concert will also take place on the 25th, with news about Persona 5S, a game that so far has no teaser or trailer.
