After rumors and speculation, Sony revealed in an interview with Wired what it will do in the next console generation with PlayStation 5.

Many fans may be pleased that PS5 will be backward compatible with PS4, allowing players to continue playing Sony's previous-generation titles on the next generation. The new console will also continue to use physical media, unlike Stadia, which is betting on a future without that context.

Among the console's hardware updates, it was confirmed that the CPU and GPU will use a third-generation AMD Ryzen with eight cores and a customized Radeon Navi. It was said to be capable of rendering ray tracing, a new graphics technique, as well as "3D audio."

The console will support 8K quality for games and use an SSD for faster loading. PlayStation VR will continue to be used with the console.

There is no planned release date at the moment, but it was confirmed that it will not launch in 2019.

For now, these are all the details available about PS5. However, speculation points to the possibility that PS5 will also be backward compatible with PS3, PS2, and PS1. Sony will not attend E3 this year, so it is not known when we will hear the first announcements about the device, but it should not be far away.

List of games for PS5

Among the rumored games for the console, sequels to God of War, Horizon: Zero Dawn, and Watch Dogs are expected. Games revealed during this generation that may come to the higher-spec console include Cyberpunk 2077, Death Stranding, The Last of Us: Part 2 ("remastered" version), Ghost of Tsushima, and Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) is also expected to be one of the console's major bets, alongside Microsoft's new "Xbox."
