After a great deal of speculation from fans, Nintendo finally revealed the eighth generation of the famous Pokémon game series. During a Direct created specifically for the pocket monsters, the titles Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield were revealed as the two versions of the franchise’s new game for Nintendo Switch. Sword and Shield will take players to the Galar region, which is inspired by England. The three starter Pokémon were also revealed in the first trailer: Grookey, a Grass type; Scorbunny, a Fire type; and Sobble, a Water type.

Their personalities were also revealed, with Grookey described as a "mischievous Monkey Pokémon full of boundless curiosity," Scorbunny as a "Rabbit Pokémon that is always running around, full of energy," and Sobble as a "somewhat timid Water Lizard Pokémon that fires attacks while trying to hide in the water."

Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield will be released for Nintendo Switch at the end of 2019, although an exact date has not yet been confirmed.
