Japanese magazine Corocoro, known for always providing information about Pokémon games before the rest of the world, announced a contest that will give one fan the chance to name a move in Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield.

Contests like this are not new for the magazine, which held a similar contest for the franchise’s fourth generation that named the move Meteoric Swarm. In English, it became known as Draco Meteor.

The new move, a Steel type, will deal 140 special damage, but the user will lose 50 HP in the process. It is not known whether the move will be exclusive to a particular Pokémon. However, its type, combined with the fact that the Pokémon receiving it has not been revealed, may indicate that it belongs to a legendary Pokémon representing a sword or shield. After all, the objects that give the games their names are made of metal.

Galar

The industrial aesthetic that dominates part of Galar reinforces the “Steel” theme

The contest will be exclusive to residents of Japan. Therefore, there is no guarantee that the move’s name will influence other languages in the game. This is reinforced by the fact that the previous contest did not influence the name in other languages.

The rules state that the name must have up to eight characters written in Katakana or Hiragana. The Roman alphabet may also be used.

The 20 top contestants will win a copy of Pokémon Sword or Pokémon Shield, depending on their choice. But, obviously, only the first-place winner will be able to choose the move’s name.

Corocoro has not yet released more details about the contest, but participants will be able to enter with a special postcard included with the magazine’s monthly issue, which comes out on April 15.
