The new game in the Shantae series had several details revealed by developer WayForward, including its definitive title, Shantae and the Seven Sirens. The title had been announced as “Shantae 5” at the beginning of the year, and there had not been much news about the game until now.

The announcement was made on WayForward's official website and highlights information about the story and the game world, along with some new mechanics.

In the game, protagonist Shantae will explore a tropical paradise island, using new dance abilities and magic to explore a non-linear world filled with towns, labyrinths, and bosses.

Other new features include:

  • An interconnected world, similar to the series' first games
  • Graphics in 4K resolution on compatible devices
  • Collectible cards that can strengthen the character according to the player's preferences
  • Animated cutscenes in a “television” style
  • A cast of characters that includes new faces and old favorites

Screenshots of the game were also released, some of which can be seen throughout this article. They seem to indicate that the game will run on the same engine as Shantae: Half-genie Hero, released in 2016, with some changes.

Shantae and the Seven Sirens will be released for Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, and Apple Arcade. A release date has not yet been revealed.
