An acclaimed SpongeBob game (Spongebob Squarepants: Battle for Bikini Bottom) is getting a remake. The announcement, which surprised many people, came in the form of a teaser from publisher THQ Nordic, which currently holds the rights to Nickelodeon games.

Are you ready, kids? The classic is back, faithfully remade in spongetastic splendor!

The game, now called Spongebob Squarepants: Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated (as in "rehydrated"), promises an entirely new multiplayer mode along with content that went unused in the original game. Purple Lamp Studios is handling development.

Spongebob Squarepants: Battle for Bikini Bottom was originally released in 2003 for PlayStation 2, Nintendo GameCube, Xbox, Game Boy Advance, and PC, and was also published by THQ Nordic. The 3D platformer has a score of 71 on Metacritic and has gained an increasingly large fan base over the years, attaining "cult classic" status.

The title's three playable characters are SpongeBob SquarePants, Patrick Star, and Sandy Cheeks, who fight an army of Plankton's robots after he fails to control it (explaining the game's subtitle, "Battle for Bikini Bottom"). The game is acclaimed for its dialogue, which follows the cartoon's style of humor, and many compare it to a "playable SpongeBob episode."

The announcement lists Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC versions, without a specific date. According to a THQ Nordic tweet, the game will not appear at E3 2019, which will take place in a few days.

One interesting detail is that the system-requirements section of the game's Steam page contains a very creative joke for fans of the cartoon:

EstouPronto

During Steam's famous sales, fans already know what to shout: "I'm ready! Sale! I'm ready! Sale!"

For anyone who does not know English, the requirements have not yet been defined, so they are replaced by SpongeBob's classic catchphrase: "I'm ready!"

And are you ready?
