One of the distinguishing features of Team Sonic Racing, the new racing game starring SEGA's mascot, is a mechanic in which teams of three are formed and each team member's overall position can affect the final results. However, the game will provide another option for those more interested in traditional car races.

In an interview conducted by Famitsu, Takashi Iizuka, head of Sonic Team, revealed that the game will also have a traditional race format without teams, in which whoever finishes first wins.
Team Competition
At the most recent Sonic anniversary event, held at Tokyo Joypolis, SEGA announced that Amy Rose, Big the Cat and a group of four Chao, all riding together in one car, will be playable characters in Team Sonic Racing.
Team Sonic Racing will be available on Nintendo Switch, Steam, Xbox One and PlayStation 4, and will be released at the end of this year.
