Avengers: Endgame is one of the biggest releases in the history of world cinema, breaking records and currently holding second place among the highest-grossing films in the world, behind only Avatar. However, not everything has been smooth amid the film's unprecedented success.

Brazilian filmmakers expressed dissatisfaction with the way Marvel's film suppressed the release of the Brazilian film De Pernas Pro Ar 3, since Avengers occupied more than 80% of all Brazilian movie screens, with some cinemas showing only the conclusion of the MCU. This raised concerns about how foreign films can affect the performance of national films.

De Pernas pro Ar 3 supposedly had its performance affected after a limited release because of Avengers.

In response, Minister of Citizenship Osmar Terra signed a screen quota this Monday. Brazilian cinemas will once again be required to show a certain percentage of national films every year. The specific details of the rule are not yet clear, especially the minimum number of days during which theaters in the country will be required to show local feature films. It is believed to follow the old standard, under which a theater had to show a local production for 28 days of the year. The number of Brazilian features may increase depending on the size of the cinema, reaching up to 24 in a cinema with 16 or more screens.

This screening decree was originally in force until 2018, when it was not renewed for unexplained reasons, allowing productions such as Endgame to dominate all local cinema screens.
