The film version of the game Monster Hunter already has a theatrical release date: September 4, 2020. This information was disclosed directly by Sony to the Deadline website.

The lead actress will be Milla Jovovich and the film will be directed by Paul W. Anderson, both of whom were previously responsible for bringing the Resident Evil franchise to theaters. According to the information released, the feature film will bring in monsters that have appeared throughout the series, with no new ones made especially for the cinema. In the director's words: "We don't need to create new enemies, because there is an enormous number of fantastic creatures already created (...) we are investing mainly in the favorites from Monster Hunter: World, which is the most recent game, but there will also be ones from previous games".

According to the film's official synopsis, the main character, Artemis, played by Milla Jovovich, will be teleported along with her soldiers from our world to another one infested with creatures. In this place, she will have to fight for her survival alongside a mysterious man who will show her how to defend herself.

Below is a previously released photo from the film set. From the image, we can see that certain pieces of equipment resemble those used by characters from the franchise, which demonstrates respect for the original work.
