Puyo Puyo eSports was released this year in Japan and other Asian markets for PlayStation 4 and Switch, even receiving a major discount at launch. The game is already doing quite well in Japan, being one of the best-selling titles on the Japanese eShop. However, for those who were waiting for a Western release of the game, it seems that this is close to happening.
SEGA recently registered a new trademark that will apparently be the name of the game's global version. The trademark in question is Puyo Puyo Champions, which was registered in late October but only became public this November. What stands out is that the trademark was not registered in Japanese, as is usually the case, but with the title written entirely in the Roman alphabet, which is particularly unusual.
We still do not know whether this really means that Puyo Puyo eSports will come to the West, so all we can do is wait. Even so, Tom Nadja, a professional Puyo Puyo player, said that SEGA was "seriously considering" a localization, so perhaps this new trademark is the first sign of it.
