Nintendo of Europe and SEGA of Europe officially confirm that they have entered a new distribution agreement involving only the upcoming Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice, scheduled for exclusive release on Nintendo 3DS this European winter, meaning late 2015. Under the terms, Nintendo will be responsible for sales, marketing, and distribution of the game across European territories, while SEGA will act as publisher in the remaining territories.

In a press release: "The iconic blue blur, Sonic the Hedgehog, will race again in Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice, while the game will also introduce more adventure, speed, exploration, and a brand-new 'fire and ice' gameplay system that should propel the action in the new title.

The game will feature the triumphant return of Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, and Sticks from the Sonic Boom animated series."

Sonic Boom: Fire and Ice is scheduled to be released this Christmas in North America. In Europe, the game will arrive during the region's winter, with Nintendo handling publishing.

Although it is not stated in the release, development is once again being handled by Sanzaru Games Inc. There is still no official information on whether the game's plot will tie into the plot of Cartoon Network's animated series in any way, but the possibility remains open.
