Since it was officially announced by IGN, many people have expressed their dissatisfaction or uncertainty about Sonic's design in his CGI/live-action movie, and it now seems to be reaching another level. An official Twitter account for the movie was created today (December 18, 2018), and, taking inspiration from the blue hedgehog's regular account, it has chosen to promote the film through memes and humorous posts that make fun of the character's own design for the movie. This has prompted some fan theories about whether Sonic's design might be a marketing move.

One of the posts on the account shows Sonic with highly muscular legs holding a sign that says, "Can't a guy work out? I'll be back next year." It demonstrates that those involved with the movie are aware of the negative reception the design received and, looking beyond the comedic focus on the muscular legs, gives us an idea that Sonic may wear gloves.
