While we are here going about our quiet lives, South Park has already been commissioned for several dozen more episodes through its 23rd season, by which point it should surpass 300 episodes. The TV series created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone has been on the air for almost two decades, remaining important and highly influential as one of the most recognized brands on American television today.
Doug Herzog, an executive at Comedy Central, the channel that owns the series, says that South Park will undergo an "aggressive expansion," with a reach far beyond television through new licensing agreements around the world. In other words, we may yet see projects that go far beyond the excellent game The Stick of Truth for PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PCs, which provides a direct continuation of the series' story.
South Park: The Fractured But Whole
The Stick of Truth, one of 2014's best-reviewed games, already has its direct sequel scheduled for release in 2016. At E3 2015, Parker and Stone appeared onstage during Ubisoft's press conference to reveal the next game. Watch the trailer above.
For now, South Park is expected to return "with a bang" on September 16 with its 19th season.
