SONIC is officially in its filming stages, with actor James Marsden recording his scenes as Tom Wachowski, a police officer who will help Sonic in the film. Now, actor Jim Carrey, who was in the final negotiations to play Dr. Eggman, confirms that he is in fact involved with the film starring SEGA’s mascot in an interview with Deadline. Here is the excerpt:
"Regarding Jim Carrey’s next film, it is Paramount’s feature-film interpretation of SEGA’s mascot, Sonic the Hedgehog. He plays the villain Dr. Ivo ‘Eggman’ Robotnik.
‘It will be live-action,’ Carrey says about his character.
How will the stand-up comedian with a thousand faces portray him?
‘Magic!’ Carrey shouted to the audience, ‘mixed with despair.’"
