According to Deadline, Netflix is already producing a live-action series based on the classic survival horror game franchise Resident Evil. However, all indications are that Constantin Film, the studio behind the franchise's films that reached theaters, will be responsible for the series.
Deadline apparently sought more information from Netflix but did not receive any further details on the matter.
In the words of Nellie Andreeva, who reported the information, this future series will have the same foundation as the film franchise, exploring the legacy of the Umbrella Corporation and a society thrown into chaos after a worldwide outbreak caused by the T-virus. Not much can be said yet because everything is still in the planning stage, but easter eggs and the classic action sequences found in the films are expected.
The series apparently does not yet have further plot details or a definitively established cast.
By all indications, 2019 will be an important year for Resident Evil. In a short time, we have already received the major remake of the franchise's second game and this possible series in development. Perhaps we can expect more announcements, such as a Resident Evil 3 remake, Revelations 3, the eighth game in the main series, or a new spin-off. Capcom appears to be inspired.
What about you? What do you think about this possible series being produced by the same studio behind the Resident Evil franchise's films? The cover image comes from the live-action launch trailer for the Resident Evil 2 remake.
