After the first trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog was released online and in theaters, many fans expressed their dissatisfaction with the character's design, especially details such as his human teeth. In response to the criticism, Jeff Fowler, the film's director, posted on Twitter that changes would be made to the character's design.

But one concern many people had after the animation redo was announced was the extreme workload it would place on the animators to ensure that the original November release date was maintained. Jeff Fowler put all those concerns to rest by confirming a new premiere date for the film: February 14, 2019.

The new poster shows some details that will already please fans, with Sonic wearing gloves and his arms shaped more like "noodles." The film will premiere on Valentine's Day, the U.S. holiday equivalent to Brazil's Dia dos Namorados.
